Dear Supporters,
We want to thank you for your support over the past few months! Because of your help, we can continue training teachers and delivering books to schools. So that together with local schools, we are seeing Indonesian children grow a love for reading!
New Location
In recent years, our partnership with a partner in Kalimantan has grown significantly (you may have read about this in previous updates). We are happy to share that we have now also started working with them in a new location: the island of Sumbawa. The need for quality reading education remains very high there. For example, the 'Laporan Pendidikan Indonesia' report states that 37.5% of primary school students in that area are still below the 'minimum level.'
Through this collaboration, we hope to achieve the following in this first year:
Equipped (again)
During the training in Sumbawa, we met Mrs. Atun, a senior teacher who has been teaching for around 30 years. For 27 of those years, she taught older students (Grade 5 and 6). This school year, she was assigned to teach Grade 2, and she felt a bit worried because she had been thinking about how to teach younger students after so many years with older ones. Now, she’s equipped with the right curriculum to teach her students how to read. After the training, she said, "Now I feel ready to teach Grade 2 students!"
