Teach 3000 Indonesian Children to Read

We would like to express our gratitude for the support we continue to receive from all of you. With this Project Update, we love to provide you with some insights into our recent work.

Implementation of Timor Suka Membaca
In the last months we started up a new program in NTT, one of Indonesia's eastern provinces. Research has shown that the literacy levels in these regions are still very low, highlighting the need for quality reading education. As some of you may already know, we opened a second office in Kupang to bring our team closer to this area, making it easier for us to implement this new program. In the coming years, our goal is to provide intensive mentoring to several schools, enabling them to effectively implement the curriculum. Simultaneously, we are actively seeking additional funding to involve more schools in this program, so they can be part of a greater transformation of this area.

Milestone - Over 200 teachers trained!
At the end of last year, our team set ambitious goals for 2023. One of these goals was to train over 200 teachers. Some had doubts about whether this goal was too ambitious, because in the previous year we trained a total of 119 teachers.
Now, in mid-October, we have successfully trained more than 200 teachers! What a significant milestone!
We, as the Saya Suka Membaca team, are grateful for this achievement and the hope for the long-term impact this will have. It is inspiring to think that in the coming years, more then 200 teachers are equipped to provide effective reading education to their children.

Plans for the Next Year
Achieving such results this year raises the question of our goals for the upcoming year. We will continue our commitment to providing quality reading education throughout Indonesia; it remains our core focus. But how? Where should we concentrate our efforts? These are the questions we will be discuss as a team in the coming months. With the collaboration of teachers and the Saya Suka Membaca team, we aim to set new milestones in the new year. One of the crucial elements to realize this is securing new funding and engaging new donors. If you have ideas for a fund that fits with our mission, a successful donor campaign, or expertise in grant writing, we would love to hear from you and work together on this. So, please let us know! 

Once again, we are so grateful for your support of the Saya Suka Membaca programs. It is encouraging to collaborate with so many who share our vision for a transformation through literature. Together, we strive for a brighter future for Indonesia.

Ayo! Suka Membaca!

We would like to express our gratitude for the incredible support we continue to receive from all of you. It is truly inspiring to witness the ongoing financial contributions that help us achieve our shared mission.

Closing Program
In June, we will conclude the program we have undertaken in collaboration with the national and local government in East Indonesia (Kabupaten Kupang). Over the past three years, we have provided intensive training and mentoring to more than 35 teachers in that region. This training familiarizes them with our teaching methodology, the Saya Suka Membaca curriculum, and our instructional materials. We believe in the power of combining training and mentoring because the monthly mentoring sessions assist teachers in implementing what they have learned during their training. This approach ensures that it becomes more than just a one-time event and leads to a lasting change in their teaching methods. We are grateful for the opportunity to carry out this significant project in partnership with the national and local government, and your support has also played a vital role in its success. Looking Forward
As we mentioned in our previous report, we are delighted with the progress we are making this year. In the past year, we have trained 119 teachers, and as of June 2023, we have already reached 99 teachers! We are grateful for this progress and the opportunity to collaborate with various partners in implementing these interventions, equipping teachers with better skills to provide language education. We firmly believe that this will have a tremendous impact on the development of these children.

New Opportunities
Over the past few months, we have reached out to potential partners with funding proposals. Unfortunately, these efforts did not yield the desired outcomes, and we did not come across any new opportunities. Therefore, we kindly ask for your assistance. If you know of any education-focused funds that might be suitable for our cause, we would greatly appreciate it if you could inform us. In the coming months, we will continue to explore potential new partnerships, both within Indonesia and beyond. Your input and suggestions in this regard are highly valued.
