Ayubowan, Vanakum and Hello from all of us at Tea Leaf Trust!
We hope that you and all your loved ones are safe and well.
In Sri Lanka, the pandemic continues to ravage the tea estate communities and our centres are still not able to open - but that does not stop us.
We believe a key part of the role we can play within our communities if that of bringing hope for the future and a light at the end of the dark tunnel. That's why our staff work with such commitment to continue teaching our students remotely. This is more complex than may be the case where you are... as 45% of our students are unable to get any type of internet connection. So our staff have developed a system of contacts within each estate to send worksheets to. The sheets are then distributed and students complete the work with the guidance of lecture notes before sending them back. The process takes a long time but is vital. These worksheets are not just a way for staff to check in on progress in English or Business, but also to get a sense for how students are through assignments focused around personal development that give tips and exercises for students to do to maintain their emotional resilience.
Thanks to your support we are able to work hard to be there when our students and communities need us most - we are really grateful for your support.
With best wishes from us all,
Tim
P.S. The photo is our hope for the future, for students to be together learning with excitement.
