At Ipas Latin America and the Caribbean (Ipas LAC), we work to ensure that women and all people with reproductive capacity have the correct information, feel supported in their decisions, and have the confidence to access safe abortion and contraceptive services when they need them.
Since its launch in September 2023, the Te Acompaño chatbot has reached over 10,000 people and facilitated more than 9,600 conversations. This tool is actively used and promoted by approximately 14 civil society organizations and national, local, and regional health institutions that work closely with migrant populations.
The chatbot provides crucial information on accessing reproductive health services, including:
A significant portion of chatbot visits come from regions with high numbers of migrants, with 41% of interactions originating from Chiapas and Tabasco—states where we have concentrated our outreach efforts.
Te Acompaño is part of Ipas LAC’s Innovative Technology for Safe Abortion Communication program. It was developed in response to the regional migration crisis, specifically to address the reproductive health needs of women and other people with reproductive capacity along major migration routes in Mexico. This chatbot is one of several technological innovations we have developed over the past decade.
Beyond its direct impact, this program also provides technical guidance and shares best practices on documentation, digital communication, and information management methodologies, inspiring other organizations to develop their own tools for safe abortion support.
Continued support for this project will allow us to expand the chatbot’s reach to additional states and integrate new language options, ensuring more people have access to critical reproductive health information.
We believe that collective efforts are essential to advancing reproductive justice. We invite you to join us in this endeavor.
