Three things you should know

By Amber Bauer | CEO

Thank you so much for making a donation to support our work. We can't keep helping people without you.

Daily life is being made ever more difficult by politicians for the men, women and children living as refugees in Europe. For our main support areas of Greece, The Balkans and France, these are the three most important things you should know about the work you're supporting -

1. Greece - our CEO Amber spent time with our local partners in Athens, Samos and Chios in June and again in September. There she heard first hand how our support for women's and children's services, food distribution centres, schools and legal offices were making a big difference in very difficult times. Since closing the EU funded ESTIA housing project, camps in Greece are severely overcrowded with the State unable to provide essentials like running water and food for the people in their care. We're doing all we can to help our local grassroots partners fill the significant gaps in care.

2. France - our team was also on the ground in France in September. Our support for essentials like warehouse rent and van running costs for mobile distributions is enabling teams to meet people's daily needs like water, food and shelter. Police evictions are relentless in Northern France as the State ensures the makeshift camps are as inhospitable as possible. Our partners show up every day showing kindness in an otherwise dark world.

3. The Balkans - In Bosnia and Serbia one of our partners was in a car accident. Thankfully none of the team were hurt, but their vehicle was written off and the other driver didn't have insurance cover the way we might expect in the U.K. We've been able to help them replace their essential vehicle and resume their clothes, shelter and water distributions to people on the move in the region.

It's been another really busy time. The economic crisis has hit hard and the charity sector is struggling. We're devastated to hear of partners forced to close their doors. Not because their services aren't needed any more, but because they don't have funding to stay open any more. Especially at times like this we want you to know that you're truly appreciated. Thank you so much for continuing to believe in our work and help us support some of the most disadvantaged people in the world.

love from all of us at forRefugees xx
