Despite lacking support and funding from our Global Giving campaign, our Green Kidz project is still ticking along. We teach environmental education at 11 rural primary schools throughout Acornhoek area. Our curriculum is created to teach children to become conservation ambassadors and to understand their invironment from a young age.
Over the last few weeks we have taken several field trips of our schools Eco Committee. The Eco Committee is a group of several learners, parents and teachers -this way we ensure that the projects and green mindsets are understood not only be learners but also by the wider school community. Our field trips have been a combo trip to the Kinyonga reptile park where they learn the importance of resepecting snakes, but not killing them. Then a visit to Protrack Anti Poaching Unit to learn of their valuable work, and why we should protect our wildlife heritage. Last is a stop at Rhino Revolutions project and rhino orphanage to learn the more emotive side of what happens to the babies who are orphaned during the poaching. The field trips have really created an eye opening experience, and for us this is what it is all about.
Our Green Kidz teaching and trips broaden horizons and bring an understanding of wildlife and conservation. This is, i would say, a good start.
