Dear Donors,
We are pleased to share Project Maji’s successful roll-out of the Pro Poor pricing program in two communities in Ghana: Sikamfrebogya and Anum. This initiative is designed to provide free water to the most vulnerable households in these communities, ensuring that no one is left behind in the pursuit of clean water access. The program specifically targets households that are nominated by the community, comprising less than 5% of the total households. This community-led approach ensures that the most deserving families benefit from this essential resource. The program is being generously supported by Dutch retailer and Project Maji’s long-term supporter, Marie-Stella-Maris.
Stories of Impact
One of the beneficiaries of the Pro Poor program is Emilia Azigie from Anum. Emilia is deaf and mute, a widow with three children, two of whom are of school-going age. She also supports her 25-year-old unemployed child and lives with her brother. Emilia’s household often struggles with food insecurity, making the provision of free water an essential lifeline. Through this program, Emilia and her family no longer have to worry about the cost of water, allowing them to focus their limited resources on other basic needs.
Another similar story is that of Janet Manwo, a widow from Sikamfrebogya. Janet has a monthly income of about 250 Ghana Cedis and is responsible for the care of a physically challenged young man living in her household. With limited financial resources, Janet’s household often struggles to afford basic necessities, particularly during the dry seasons when food becomes scarce and more expensive. The provision of free water through Project Maji’s program has alleviated a significant burden for Janet, enabling her to better manage her household’s needs.
The Pro Poor pricing program is making a significant impact in the communities it serves, ensuring that the poorest households have access to clean water. With your continued support, Project Maji remains committed to leaving no one behind.
Thank you for your unwavering commitment to our mission.
With gratitude,
Your Friends at Project Maji
