Our Impact in 2024: A Year of Growth and Empowerme

By Maxwell Odonkor | Executive Director

Dear Partner,

First and foremost, on behalf of my team at the World Inspiring Network, we wish you happy 2025, and a happy Lunar New Year! We hope you are off to a brilliant start!

2024 has been a transformative year for World Inspiring Network, marked by impactful events, significant achievements, and inspiring stories of empowerment. Our mission to uplift young people in underserved communities through education, youth empowerment, and climate action has reached new heights, thank you for your unwavering support alongside our partners, and volunteers. Here’s a detailed look at our journey throughout the year.

Empowering Youth in Agona Asafo

Between the 8th - 10th February, 2024, the Agona Asafo Youth Empowerment Program brought hope and opportunity to over 200 young people. This transformative 3-day vocational skills training initiative, led by Give to Life Charity Organization, and World Inspiring Network, equipped participants with valuable skills and fostered a spirit of sustainability and community responsibility.

Participants engaged in practical sessions on soap making, yogurt production, fascinator design, and satellite installation. The program didn’t just teach skills; it also instilled eco-friendly practices and responsible resource management, empowering participants to become successful entrepreneurs and responsible stewards of their community and the planet.

Wiki-Green Conference 2024: Projecting Green Citizenship

On August 5, 2024, the Wiki-Green Conference 2024 led by the Wiki-Green Initiative in collaboration with World Inspiring Network, Open Knowledge Ghana, Internet Society Ghana Chapter, Youth Climate Council Ghana, among others gathered over 100 young Ghanaians, environmental advocates, and experts at the CSIR-Science and Technology Policy Research Institute (STEPRI) in Accra. Themed "Projecting Green Citizenship," the conference aimed to empower youth to take an active role in environmental sustainability and climate action.

The event featured keynote speeches, interactive workshops, panel discussions, and Wikipedia "edit-a-thons." These sessions provided participants with the knowledge and tools needed to contribute to the global conversation on climate action. The conference emphasized the importance of making climate information accessible to all communities, particularly those impacted by climate change but not fluent in English.

Green Action Project (First Cohort)

The Green Action Project Cohort 1 saw the selection of 30 participants, with women representing 60% of the group. The project included a series of trainings, with four out of six completed, and culminated in the Green Action Summit on November 14, 2024, which brought together over 300 participants.

The summit, themed "Building a Sustainable Future Through Youth Ecopreneurship and Community Engagement," aimed to empower young leaders with the knowledge and skills needed to create sustainable enterprises and engage their communities in meaningful climate action. The event provided a platform for sharing best practices, fostering collaborations, and developing actionable strategies for a sustainable future.

Induction of New GES Teachers in Afadzato South, Volta Region - Preparing Teachers for the Future

On November 18, 2024, we successfully held an Induction Program for Newly Trained Graduate Teachers at the Afadzato South in the Volta Region of Ghana. The program organised by the District Director of the Ghana Education Service (GES) in Afadzato South in collaboration with World Inspiring Network, emphasized professional conduct, digitalization, and climate change education.

Edem John Amevor, the Volunteers Club Coordinator for World Inspiring Network delivered the keynote address, highlighting the role of teachers in providing quality education and promoting climate change awareness. The program prepared teachers for their roles and emphasized the importance of sustainability.

Innovating with IoT and Robotics

In partnership with World Inspiring Network, the Internet Society's Internet for Education Special Interest Group (SIG) organized a two-day program at Prang Senior High School in the Bono East region of Ghana from November 25 to 26, 2024. The program successfully educated 55 students and 5 teachers about the Internet of Things (IoT) and robotics through hands-on training on Arduino and robotics.

Students participated in DIY sessions, creating projects such as a robotic arm, toy helicopter, and toy car powered by a balloon. Six Arduino kits were donated to the school for future practical sessions, ensuring the sustainability of the initiative.

Youth EcoPower Project: Leading Sustainable Energy Practices

The Youth EcoPower Project, funded by Bloomberg Philanthropies through the Accra Metropolitan Assembly, aimed to address Accra's pressing energy and environmental challenges by empowering youth to lead sustainable energy practices and clean energy adoption. On October 17, 2024, the project engaged over 258 students from three schools in a workshop on energy efficiency and climate change.

The workshop empowered students as environmental ambassadors and provided them with knowledge on energy efficiency and renewable energy. Students gained a deeper understanding of environmental sustainability and the need for immediate action to combat climate change.

Winner of the Youth Volunteer of the Year Award

I am honored to have received the Youth Volunteer of the Year Award at the 2024 Mentorship & Volunteerism Excellence Summit & Awards. This recognition is a testament to the incredible work of our team, volunteers, and supporters who make our mission possible.

Looking Ahead

As we celebrate our achievements in 2024, we remain committed to expanding our programs to more regions, focusing on education, digital literacy, climate action, and youth empowerment. In 2025, we look forward to increasing the number of participants, forming new partnerships, and continuing to make a positive impact in our communities.
