Project Report | Nov 29, 2024
progress report 2024 Nov

By Michaela Weisz | Project Leader

ARCAS aims to achieve a balance between conservation efforts, education, and practical wildlife rescue operations. Key actions taken during this reporting period include:

  1. Release of Guacamayas (Scarlet Macaws)
  2. Wildlife Releases in Petén
  3. Rally Parlama Event – Awareness and Fundraising
  4. Egg Numbers and Hatching Monitoring
  5. Forest Nursery and Habitat Restoration

Project Activities and Achievements:

1. Release of Guacamayas (Scarlet Macaws)

Objective:

Challenges:
Despite the success, logistical difficulties related to event organization and the need for greater community engagement remain key areas for improvement.

4. Egg Numbers and Hatching Monitoring

Objective:
To monitor the success of endangered species’ reproductive cycles and support the recovery of those species through controlled breeding programs.

Activities:

  • Detailed tracking and monitoring of egg hatching for endangered species.
  • Use of advanced techniques to ensure the safety and health of hatching eggs.

Results:
We successfully documented [insert number] eggs from endangered species, contributing valuable data to the conservation effort. Our research allows us to better understand hatching success rates, which is crucial for enhancing species survival strategies.

Challenges:
The main challenge in this area is the unpredictable nature of egg hatching, where factors such as climate and human interference can impact success rates.

5. Forest Nursery and Habitat Restoration

Objective:
To restore native forests by growing and planting thousands of native trees to support local wildlife habitats.

Activities:

  • Ongoing operation of the forest nursery to grow native trees.
  • Collaboration with local communities to plant trees in degraded areas.

Results:
We have grown and planted trees during this reporting period. These trees will contribute to the restoration of vital habitats for wildlife, particularly in regions impacted by deforestation and illegal logging.

Challenges:
The main difficulty remains ensuring the long-term survival of newly planted trees, particularly in areas with high human activity and deforestation pressures.

Conclusion:

We are proud of the progress made this year, but our work is far from over. The challenges facing wildlife in Guatemala are significant, but with your support, we can continue to make a lasting impact. Our team is committed to working alongside local communities, governmental bodies, and other environmental organizations to ensure that Guatemala’s wildlife is protected for generations to come.

Together, we can create a future where wildlife thrives and ecosystems are restored. Thank you for your ongoing support of ARCAS and for being part of this vital conservation movement.
