Dear Supporters,
We're pleased to share another update on our work in Eastern Indonesia with you. And this is a special update, as over the past few months we reached a big milestone to celebrate the end of Phase 1 of our ongoing project in Kupang, NTT: Pesta Literasi (The Literacy Celebration).
Pesta Literasi
Last June, we brought together children, teachers, and government officials to celebrate the program's results of last schoolyear. Why? Because we are grateful for the hard work of the teachers over the past year and the progress the children have made throughout this year’s program. Our endline testing data shows the positive changes in the schools where we have carried out interventions, and that children in our partner schools are making greater progress in learning to read than children in similar schools that have not received our program. That is a reason for a celebration, right?
We also want to include local government officials in the celebration so that they celebrate the impact of our partnership too. It was encouraging for the teachers and our team to see their positive reactions to the results. And we trust that this helps our partnership and that we can continue to work together in the coming years to bring real change to Kupang and across Eastern Indonesia.
Preparation for new program
A result of this partnership is that we have the opportunity to start a new program with interventions in a new district in East Indonesia. Looking back over the past years, we see that, through partnership, we have grown in this particular area of Indonesia. It is an area with great needs but also great potential for impact. That is why we are thankful to start an intervention program with 8 new schools this month. As usual, the teachers at these schools will be trained in the Saya Suka Membaca materials, and we will provide the schools with books and other reading materials to foster a love for reading.
And the best part is, your donation makes this work possible. Thank you so much; it means a lot to the teachers, the students, and our team. If you know someone who might also be interested in supporting our work, please let them know!
Salam Literasi,
