EIM Haiti Update: Winter 2025
Hey friends, as much as I've tried to avoid the news recently, all the impact on Haiti is too much to ignore. The
devastating cuts to USAID in general and specifically the
freezing of $13.3M in funds for Haiti's international police force is heartbreaking – causing an already fraught situation to get even worse.
Additionally, the
suspension of deportation protection for half a million Haitians living in the US means this summer will no doubt bring an influx in new arrivals, putting even more strain on food and resources.
EIM has always been more than school, which is why for the past several years we've created an emergency fund. The fund is a vital way we've been able to support our community as they've faced personal emergencies ranging from gang robberies, to food shortages, housing relocations, and sadly even funerals. At the moment, even our principal Enock has had to leave his home and move further away to protect his family.
Our ask of you: please donate to our 2025 Emergency Fund. In the short term, we'll use this money to provide vital supply kits of food and sanitation to our staff, enabling them to shelter in place as much as possible during moments of instability and violence. Beyond that, it's important to have a reserve of funding outside regular operations to ensure we're prepared for whatever else this year brings.
While we can't stop the current administration, we're proud to do what we can to protect our small, beloved pocket of Haiti. Thank you in advance for your support.
Best,
Steph, Enock & all of us at EIM
