By helping to expose Title 1 middle school students to ideas, experiences, guest speakers and futures that otherwise remain foreign to them, you will be preparing under-served youth to make the jump out of poverty. Our program follows students for all three middle school years focusing on comprehensive self-development, college readiness, and career exposure to prepare them for long term success. Together we can help these students build bridges to a brighter future.
The transition from elementary to middle grades leaves young adolescents increasingly vulnerable to emotional, academic, and behavioral problems resulting in lower levels of success. This is especially true in the lower-income areas surrounding and feeding into Title 1 Schools. Students in these schools are more likely to drop out, take a job with little to no advancement opportunity, and continue the cycle of poverty.
We aim to make the transition from elementary to middle school easier by paying extra attention to students. Our 1-on-1 classroom interactions focus on self-development, college/trade preparedness & career exposure. Students involved in this program receive good grades, boasting an average GPA that is one letter grade higher than the school average. Outside of the classroom they self-report higher confidence, self-development skills & a fighting determination to further their education.
Students involved in the Middle School Program will be able to picture a brighter future for themselves for perhaps the first time in their life. With the ongoing support provided to them they will learn about college paths, trade schools, career opportunities and will be given the resources to reach those goals. With a plethora of tools in their grasp, they are prepared to break the cycle of poverty in their families and communities for the first time in generations.
