THANK YOU AND AN UPDATE FROM TARANA

Dear Generous Donors,

A very special and a big thank you to each one of you from Tarana Foundation - a team of volunteers dedicated and committed to help support rural communities in Sri Lanka to reach out of poverty.

We are very grateful to you for your generous donations given to us on the GlobalGiving platform, to help support our project to Support Rural Schools in Sri Lanka. May each one of you and your families be blessed abudantly. 

In response to the great support we have received. we will increase the no. of rural school children and also the no. of rural schools supported by us at the end of this year. 

We had our committee meeting in early July 2020, and a status update of either the projects which we are currently engaged in or wish to proceed in 2020, are given below, for your information.

(1) Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Project (WASH) - Funded by the German Ambassy of Sri Lanka

Project Cost - Rs. 2,393,145/- (USD 12,600 approx.)

No. of units supported - 17 Schools and 1 Aramaya (religious abode of buddhist nuns) 

13 Rural Schools in Dehiattakandiya (Ampara District)

2 Rural Schools in Galkulama and Thanthirimale (Anuradhapura District)

2 Rural Schools in Delft and Kytes (Jaffna District)

The WASH projects at 13 schools in Dehiattakandiya and in one Aramaya in Padiyatalawa in Ampara District has commenced. We are in the process of purchasing the water pumps and water tanks, and once they are purchased and dispatched, the schools will be able to install them and complete the project.

After completing the projects at Ampara District, we will commence with the schools in Anuradhapura and Jaffna Districts.

Proposed Timeline to complete - End-October 2020

(2) Home Gardening - Growing Vegetables Project - Funded by individual donors during the Covid-19 Period

Project Cost - LKR 300,000/- (USD 1,600 approx.)

No. of families supported - 400 families in Hambantota District

This project will support 100 families each in 4 rural villages in Hambantota District to grow vegetables for their own consumption. This was a necessity identified by the government authorities in the district, as a result of the the Corona Virus situation in Sri Lanka. Hence, we have undertaken to support this project, out of the funds we raised during the period March - June 2020, for Corona-19 Projects. The project will commence soon with the distribution of seeds, compost fertilizer, bags to grow, etc., and will be supported for 5-6 months. The village authorities wil visit the families, and support them and monitor the project during this period. 

Proposed Timeline to complete - February 2021

(3) Rural Schools Project

(a) Distribution of school requirements to 3,000 rural school children

Project Cost - LKR 5 million (USD 26,315 approx.)

No. of students supported with schools requirements - 3,000 rural school children

The funds raised through GlobalGiving will support this project, which we hope to carry out during the period November 2020 - January 2021.

We are assessing the current situation in the country and will make our initial plans during August - September 2020. Will provide an update to you in due course, once the project is planned.

Proposed Timeline - November 2020 - January 2021

(b) Distribution of Library book to 50 rural schools

Project Cost - LKR 20,000 worth of Library books to 50 rural schools = 1 million (USD 5,300 approx.)

No. of rural schools - 50 rural schools

Further funds raised on GlobalGiving will support this project, which we hope to carry out during the period November 2020 - January 2021.

We are assessing the current situation in the country and will make our initial plans during August - September 2020. Will provide an update to you in due course, once the project is planned.

Proposed Timeline - November 2020 - January 2021

(c) Distribution of musical instruments to 15 rural schools

Project Cost - 1 million (USD 5,300 approx.)

No. of rural schools - 15 rural schools

Further funds raised on GlobalGiving will support this project, which we hope to carry out during the period November 2020 - January 2021.

We are assessing the current situation in the country and will make our initial plans during August - September 2020. Will provide an update to you in due course, once the project is planned.

Proposed Timeline - November 2020 - January 2021

(d) Distribution of sports goods 50 rural schools

Project Cost - LKR 500,000 (USD 2,650 approx.)

No. of rural schools - 50 rural schools

Further funds raised on GlobalGiving will support this project, which we hope to carry out during the period November 2020 - January 2021.

We are assessing the current situation in the country and will make our initial plans during August - September 2020. Will provide an update to you in due course.

Proposed Timeline - November 2020 - January 2021

(3) Rural Pre-Schools Project - 30 Pre-Schools

Project Cost - LKR 600,000 (USD 3,200 approx.)

If we are able to raise funds, we will also consider in providing educational items to 30 rural pre-schools based in Dehiattakandiya, to accomodate a request received by us.

Proposed Timeline - November 2020 - January 2021

We hope to post photographs of our projects from time to time, and will do so once the situation eases, and we are able to travel.
