The Coronavirus pandemic has affected us all without any type of boundaries. Our nonprofit organization is no exception. Puerto Rico is in lockdown since March 15, 2020. This means that we had to stop our services to the community and be creative in the ways we look after our people. The internet and social media have given us a platform to reach out to all the people who are in quarantine. Our counselors and therapists have been actively posting advice and guidance in our social media.
One of the effects of social distancing and isolation for a prolonged period, is grief, anxiety, depression, boredom, and, at a certain point, these can also lead to physiological effects. We need to use all the available means, specially digital media platforms, to reach people, keep company, and look after them.
Using social media and other digital platforms our counselor and therapists are offering advice on the use of time at home during quarantine, they are leading Dance Movement Therapy sessions for everybody who can connect to our social media, creative therapies workshops, addressing the topics of management of emotions and anxiety, dealing with family relationships, and, also, will start individual and group counseling through digital platforms.
Our goal is to help our people to live this period of health crisis in a more positive and proactive way. To guide them in the process of these weeks to cope and endure through what is going on in the world. The more resilient they are, the stronger they will be, and the path to recovery as individuals and as communities will be quicker and better.
