Olturoto Children's Village (OCV) is an initiative of Kickstart Kids International. At Kickstart Kids, we believe that every child deserves a safe, nurturing, and supportive environment to thrive. This is why we are currently transforming Olturoto Children's Village (OCV) into a dynamic community hub that will provide essential preventative care and support to at-risk children. As part of this transformation, we launched our inaugural After-School Program targeting children aged 10 to 14.
Globally several children are at risk of being separated from their family and placed in institutions due to limited protective factors and community support. children who grow up in institutions are likely to have lower educational qualifications, become young parents, become homeless, have higher levels of unemployment, and mental health problems, and may be more likely to be involved in crime and anti-social behaviors as a result.
Our aim is to strengthen family protective factors through various interventions and providing safe play spaces, activities e.g. tuition, sports, art and music for children as part of preventative care and empowerment.
The core long term of this transition is to prevent institutionalization for orphaned and vulnerable children and prevent separation from their families. Kickstart aims to promote the development of a demonstrated and scalable model for prevention in Olturoto while continuing to support its existing beneficiaries under its two legacy. This new strategy is in line with the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) set guidelines on how care should be provided to children.
