Progress on our After –School programme

We are delighted to update you on the progress of our After-School programme, which we inaugurated five months ago. The After-School Program aims to provide essential support and opportunities for children outside of regular school hours and during holidays. The programme is designed for children aged 10 to 14, and aims to strike a balance between developmental readiness, academic engagement, and accessibility. The After School Program is also intended to empower at-risk children, caregivers, and families by improving access to excellent support resources and teaching resilience and life skills through counseling.

The program recognizes the importance of providing a safe and nurturing environment for children during the critical after-school hours and school holidays, where they can engage in educational, recreational, and skill-building activities. Since its launch, Olturoto Children Village (OCV) has become a place where learning meets creativity, friendships grow, and children explore new skills from tutoring and art to sports and life skills, each session in our After School Programme is an opportunity for the kids to build confidence and dream big because we strongly believe that every child deserves the chance to thrive

Tuition updates

Tuition has provided additional support and focused learning, helping the children to solidify foundational concepts, improving in their academic performance and building confidence. This has prepared them for more complex material in current and later grades, especially in crucial subjects like math, English, Kiswahili, Agriculture and science. Through our assessment, we can confidently say that the children have improved in various subjects.

Extracurricular activities

Football has provided opportunities for the children to develop essential life skills like teamwork, leadership, communication, time management, and creativity while art sessions has given them a powerfully way to express themselves, building confident and discovering new talents. Each brushstroke, sketch and color tells a unique story helping them develop skills that will last a lifetime.

Other services offered during the programme

Apart from tuition, sports and arts, counseling services are provided for both the children and their guardians since many children face challenges beyond the classroom. Our program includes dedicated counseling sessions to support their mental and emotional well-being.

and additionally the community members are offered online services (E-Citizen services) such as registration of birth certificates, registration of medical covers application of driving license among other services.

Success stories and exciting visits

Our kids celebrated a big milestone by harvesting their kales and spinach which they planted during Agriculture class. They proudly shared the produce and took them home to share with their families. This is a true testament to their hard work and the skills they continue gaining in their agriculture class.

The visit by the Australian High Commissioner

 We were honored to host the Australian High Commissioner to Her Excellency Ms. Jenny Da Rin, at Olturoto Children’s Village (OCV).

She visited to see what our After-School Program activities entail and how beneficial it was to the children. Her visit truly underscores the importance of our efforts to empower families and children through education, counseling, and life skills, while building meaningful partnerships to sustain and scale our vision. Ms. Jenny's presence is a testament to the global potential of our local solutions and the transformative power of our community-driven change.

In addition, we serve our children balanced diet meals and this contributes to their general health and growth.
