On May 27th, 2021, Tanzania's Regional Mental Health Coordinator officiated the launch of TEWWY's Mental Health Intervention Program being integrated in the local govenrnment authorities of the (5) municipalities in Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania after successfully completeing mhGAP training for (19) retired elderly women (Wisdom&Wellness Counselors).
The Wisdom&Wellness Counselors are operating from (15) local government offices across 6 wards, providing mental health services, support and resources to all members of the community with full support of the local government. Integrating accessible mental health services in non-specialized health setting reduces stigma and discrimination.
One in an Army launched a mental health fundraising initiative in honor of J-Hope's birthday, a member of BTS, a Korean boy band, whose music and messages have been a comfort for people of all genders and age group. Understanding how crucial intergenerational exchange is to creating safe-spaces for both the elderly and youth alike, and valuing the importance of elderly people's experience and insights to their communities, ARMY's support of TEWWY's mental health intervention program will extend across (15) local communities for a period of 15 weeks. TEWWY has facilitated chairs and a table for one-on-one interpersonal counseling. The infrastructure is to support the local government offices beyond the project.
