Older children may read about war in the newspaper; younger children may feel tension and uncertainty in their parents. Palestinian children growing up in a time of conflict and strain need a place of peace, joy, and learning—they need the Spafford Children’s Center (SCC).
For 100 years the SCC has been serving Palestinians in East Jerusalem and the surrounding areas. It used to be a quick trip from Ramallah to Jerusalem, but now there is a wall and a myriad of checkpoints. In days past parents took their children for a picnic under the pine trees of Shepherd’s Field near Bethlehem, before coming to Jerusalem for a checkup by the doctor at the SCC.
Now things are different and SCC has adapted to decades of changes in the geo-political environment of Jerusalem. No longer a hospital or clinic, the SCC now is a premier center for trauma treatment, educational support, and recreational activities. Your donations through the American Friends of the Spafford Children’s Center (AFSCC) help maintain a highly qualified staff and innovative programs that are offered to Palestinian children, youth, and parents for a small fee based on their ability to pay.
