By Jean Baumgardner | Board President
Dear Friends of The Solidarity Project,
What a start to 2025! With so much happening in the world, we’re incredibly grateful to share the exciting progress we’ve made—thanks to your unwavering support!
New Board Members
We’re thrilled to welcome two fantastic new board members, David and Marcela! Both fluent Spanish speakers, David brings his photography and social media expertise to help share our story, while Marcela, a physician and director at ProMujer, adds her passion for health, development, and community-driven change to our team. We are beyond grateful to have them on board!
Baking Workshop
Earlier this year, our leadership intern Julia led an engaging, hands-on baking workshop, fostering skill-building and economic empowerment. Community members from rural Honduras learned new techniques and recipes, gaining valuable knowledge for personal growth and potential income opportunities. It was a huge success, strengthening local engagement and self-sufficiency!
Virtual Health Charla
Continuing our commitment to community health, we hosted a virtual health charla with Dr. Adalid, covering essential topics like wound care and common skin conditions. Providing accessible health education is a priority for us, and we’re thrilled to see the impact of these conversations!
Mesa Comunitaria Microgrant – El Tule, Cedros
This year, we proudly funded our first Mesa Comunitaria microgrant for the community of El Tule! This community-led process brings residents together to discuss and vote on the most impactful development projects. Three proposals were put forward:
After a lively discussion and vote, the community selected the repair of the pedestrian bridge as the winning project!
Community member Janet shared the daily struggles caused by the deteriorating bridge, especially during the rainy season when rising river levels make access nearly impossible. Since children use it daily to get to school, a new bridge will provide a much safer and more reliable passage for everyone. The community expressed deep gratitude to The Solidarity Project for making this dream a reality.
Looking Ahead
The Solidarity Project continues to make meaningful strides in community-driven development. With strong leadership, engaging workshops, accessible health education, and targeted financial support, we’re helping communities take charge of their futures. We’re excited to continue amplifying local voices and tackling community-identified priorities in the months ahead!
A Heartfelt Thank You
None of this would be possible without YOU. Your generosity fuels our mission, empowering local leaders, funding vital projects, and creating lasting impact. From all of us at The Solidarity Project, thank you for believing in our work and standing with us in solidarity!
Sincerely,
The Solidarity Project team
