Thousands of readers globally have engaged with the Gaza Monologues texts written by 31 teenagers in Gaza 2010. These same people, now young adults, continue to share their stories. They and their families are in urgent need of our support. Following some successful evacuations, support actions, ASHTAR Theatre launched this campaign to help finance their immediate, urgent and ongoing needs.
Since October 8th 2023, 42,010+ Palestinians in Gaza have been killed by Israel (OCHA). More than ~97,720 reported injured. Our Gaza Monologues' writers are lucky to have survived until now, some of them tirelessly working with children offering them psycho-social release through drama. Their lives, however, at any point in time can be ended. ASHTAR Theatre launched this campaign to support them in their preferred next steps seeking safety and survival.
Although the border with Egypt is blockaded, an evacuation of an adult evacuee costs $5,000 and takes up to 4 weeks to evacuate out of Gaza and $2,500 for a child below the age of 16. Our Gaza-based Gaza Monologues community need funds to either evacuate to Egypt and elsewhere, sustain themselves there, remain in Gaza being sufficiently supported and/or help support their families based on surveys conducted amongts them to be closely informed regarding their ever-changing needs.
Given the catastrophic scale of devastation in Gaza, the protracted unstable situation deteriorating daily and immeasurable needs, this funding campaign can only realistically provide short to medium support for our Gaza Monologues community. However, with your financial support we will be able to help address their urgent needs hoping for more sustainable solutions.
