Update on The Changemakers Programming: Exploring AI

By Lauren Fine | Co-Founder

We are thrilled to update you on the recent activities of the GEC and Matie Masie Changemaker Program. Today, we would like to highlight a programming class held earlier this month.  The June programming was the second AI class of the year, led by Mr. Kenneth Broni from the University of Ghana's School of Engineering. This session offered our students an in-depth look into the world of Artificial Intelligence, exploring its history, significance, and applications across various industries. Mr. Broni, with his extensive background in computer engineering and education, provided valuable insights and engaged the students with thought-provoking discussions.

Mr. Broni began the class by encouraging students to reflect on their future careers and how AI could enhance their work. He took them through the evolution of AI, from its early milestones to current advancements, using relatable historical analogies to explain complex concepts. The session also covered the four stages of the Industrial Revolution, emphasizing the role of AI and digital technologies in today's world. Students learned about various AI applications, such as predictive analysis and natural language processing, and explored career opportunities in the field.

The students were highly engaged, asking insightful questions about AI ethics, its origins, and its impact on the labor force. Mr. Broni addressed their queries thoughtfully, emphasizing the collaborative potential of AI in augmenting human work rather than replacing it. The session was a resounding success, leaving students inspired and better informed about the role of AI in their future careers.  Bright, one of the GEC scholars, was particularly curious about whether AI could take over the labor force and replace human jobs. He had the opportunity to explore this question and learn more about AI during the session. Our students continue to love the Changemaker program, finding it engaging, exciting, and motivating as it propels them forward in their academic pursuits and life goals.

We are immensely grateful to Mr. Broni for his dedication and expertise and to our donors for their continued support, which makes these enriching educational experiences possible.
