We are delighted to share the progress of the MAITS Level 1, six-day training programme for community health workers (CHWs) and therapists from the Institute Of Holistic Rehabilitation and Inclusion (IHRI).
It took place during July 2024 at the Rangoonwala Community Center in Karachi. Thanks to your support, Batch #1 participants engaged in a comprehensive programme focused on supporting children with disabilities and their families. Training covered child development, family support strategies, promoting independence, and cultural perspectives on disability. Participants gained practical skills in handling, using mobility aids, communication techniques, feeding strategies, and assessments, all based on the MAITS guide.
This training has already had a significant impact, with participants reporting increased understanding, caregiving skills, and empathy. To further strengthen the programme, we’ve identified areas for improvement, such as ongoing training and advanced instruction for complex cases.
This was the first batch of three that are taking place in partnership with IHRI. Your generosity has been pivotal to this success, and we look forward to keeping you informed as we continue enhancing care for special needs children.
Many thanks from the entire MAITS team.
