Dear Supporters of MAITS,
We are thrilled to announce our new partnership with the Disabled Welfare Association (DWA) in Karachi. DWA provides a range of specialized services catering to the distinct needs of individuals with disabilities. These services encompass accessibility support, assistive technology resources, counseling services, and community outreach programs designed to enhance their overall quality of life.
In October 2023, MAITS successfully conducted training for 13 Community Health Workers (CHWs) at the Disabled Welfare Association. These CHWs play a crucial role in providing compassionate support to individuals with disabilities within their local communities.
Additionally, we trained 4 local therapists to serve as trainers, enabling them to train future social workers specializing in disabilities. This comprehensive 55-hour training programme was facilitated by three expert MAITS Master trainers in the local language. Our collaboration with DWA was initiated last year through HANDS.
While MAITS training sessions are typically scheduled for full days, we made necessary adjustments to accommodate situations where all staff members are undergoing training simultaneously. This ensured that the training timings were organised in a manner that did not disrupt the organisation's daily operations. The training spanned 10 days, totaling approximately 55 hours.
Following the training, we anticipate that each CHW will be able to support a minimum of 8 to 10 children with disabilities in Karachi within their first year of training. MAITS will actively collect monitoring and evaluation data through home visits or by engaging with children who receive support from individuals trained by MAITS.
We would like to say a big thank you to all our donors who are making it possible for MAITS to continue supporting children with special needs. We have so far reached 1.4 million children through your generous donations.
Many thanks,
MAITS Team
