Dear Friend,
It is unfathomable that, after more than a year of horror for children and families in the Gaza Strip, the situation continues to deteriorate. The situation unfolding in North Gaza, especially, is apocalyptic. Day after day, children are paying the price for a war they did not start. Children need a ceasefire now. The devastating attacks on schools-turned-shelter and other internally displaced sites continue, especially in the north, reportedly killing hundreds more Palestinians, many of them children, and leaving already overwhelmed hospitals buckling under the strain.
Thanks in part to your generosity UNICEF is able to respond to the most critical and immediate needs of children in Gaza including malnutrition, access to safe drinking water and sanitation, maternal and child health services, and vaccination. UNICEF is continually adapting its response to address acute needs created by new displacements, public health emergencies, and acute food insecurity. When possible, UNICEF is also supporting restoration of essential basic services. Given high levels of psychosocial distress due to cumulative exposure to violence, UNICEF is scaling up mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) and other child protection services. Child protection services including case management, the provision of MHPSS and legal services for children are being provided to vulnerable children. UNICEF also supports vulnerable people to meet their basic needs including through multi-purpose cash assistance. In the West Bank, UNICEF supports health services including through pre-positioning health supplies and supporting services to prevent malnutrition.
On behalf of the children and families UNICEF is reaching, thank you for your contribution.
In partnership,
Marisa
