This project will provide therapeutic treatment to 50 children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) from Tijuana, through our in-person Special Education Program. This therapeutic treatment is essential to develop the skills, independence and improve the quality life of children with autism
Autism is a neurodevelopmental disorder that is prevalent throughout life. It affects the communication, interpersonal relationships, and behavior of those who have it. In Mexico, 1 of 115 children are diagnosed with ASD. In Tijuana there are few specialized centers that treat children with autism, so it is more difficult for patients to have access to specialized education and therapies because of the waiting list.
The Special Education Program aims to develop the communicative, social, academic, and self-help skills of children and teens with ASD. There are currently 50 children enrolled in the School Program developing these skills based on a personalized therapeutic program that improves their quality life. By having resources we can provide therapeutic treatment and offer discounts to the parents of the students at the School Program. Also, at Pasitos we raise autism awareness in our community.
By continuing to provide personalized therapeutic treatment to children with autism, the presence of some of the ASD features is reduced and depending on the abilities of each student and the appropriate accompaniment, children with autism can be included in a regular school. This project also reduces the risk of student dropout in the long term by offering discounts in recovery fees for parents and ensures that we have a multidisciplinary team to help the autism community.
