Support an underprivileged school in Sri Lanka

Dear Donors,

We’re happy to report that we’ve made significant progress in the months since our last update. Our focus has been on the renovation of a classroom building at the school. The renovation involved a great deal of work. While the structure of the building was sound, we completely replaced the damaged and rotten roof of the 60 foot by 20 foot building. The interior of the building was also redone, with new sturdy flooring to replace the old worn down brickwork, new doors, re-painted walls and surfaces, repaired wiring, and the installation of six fans. In addition to the renovation, we also commissioned a new sign for the school’s entrance, to reflect the school’s pride and renewal. Thanks to all the improvements at the school, the principal was also able to secure government funding to pave the road that leads to the school.

As usual, we hired local contractors to do the building renovation, and they were happy to help a rural school. Members from the community also joined in on the effort, helping dismantle and transport the old roof tiles away from the construction site. This work would not be possible without your generous donations, as well as the help of our primary contact at Landegama who has helped steer these projects on the ground, and of course the cooperation of the school’s administration.

We’re delighted to see another chapter finished at Landegama. The school will now be able to serve the community with the appropriate capacity for the village, and a safe environment for the children. We’re looking forward to the next big project – construction of new toilets to ensure sanitation and health at the school.

- Project Team to develop Landegama Vidyalaya

Dear Donors,

Since the completion of the Computer Lab at Landegama, we have set our sights on more improvements at the school. The school grounds at Landegama are sorely in need of repairs and upgrades. We have four main projects in mind for the next few months:

1. Roof Repair: The school’s classroom suffers from a water leak that has prevented classes from being held. This is obviously a critical need, so that the school can make use of their limited space, and provide students with shelter from the elements.
2. Fence Project: The school is currently unprotected from outsiders, and students are left vulnerable. A fence will greatly improve the security and safety for everyone at the school.
3. Waterline Construction: As a prerequisite to the next project, the school will need a waterline to connect it to the community’s water mains.
4. Toilet Construction: We want to provide students with facilities that meet modern hygiene standards, and give them peace of mind for this basic necessity.

As you can see, we have a lot of work to do, and we’ve begun the estimation and planning for all of these projects simultaneously. We will be consulting with surveyors, architects, and contractors to ensure that these new projects will be done correctly, and serve the school for many years to come. As usual, we will provide updates to these projects as we make progress on them.
