Hello friends! Things are always busy and happening with Esperanza Urbana and this quarter is no exception.
News from the Rehab Center
We are still working on finalizing the amazing container donated by our friends at Cumming. Most recently, a group from ECF came up to the rehab center to plant trees around the container, and to finalize the paint job. After their hard work, everyone, volunteers, staff of the center and the beneficiaries, had a nice BBQ lunch to celebrate. With that, the container is pretty much finished and ready to fulfill its mission to transition graduates of the rehab program into the community.
Outreach Update
Our volunteer team is always busy preparing food and clothing, and hard at work distributing to the homeless community in San José every Wednesdays. We welcomed folks from the Garrett Group who joined us a couple of weeks ago. Their leader, Diana Jumenez, expressed how much the Garrett team appreciated the experience and would like to repeat in the near future.
On another note, our team and several Cummings volunteers welcomed a guest speaker last Wednesday when Ammet M. gave a heartfelt testimony and discussed his journey from using drugs and living on the street or in abandoned warehouses, eating from discarded items anywhere he could find or stealing to buy food and other necessities. Our team was moved to tears upon hearing the hard times Ammet faced. However, we rejoiced in hearing about his path over the the last 7 years to a much better place now. Esperanza Urbana will continue to support him as he continues his journey.
In Other News...
I have recently had the good fortune to meet someone from London Stock Exchange Group (LSEG) offices in Heredia and explain our mission here at EU. They are very interested in getting involved and we are currently discussing how best they could contribute in the near future. You can find out more about LSES Foundation and how they support communities and charities like us here https://www.lseg.com/en/about-us/lseg-foundation We will keep you posted on this exciting new development. Always great to meet new people in our community.
As you know, we love to see the youth of Costa Rica getting involved in their community and helping us with our mission. New schools are always joining the program. We will soon be welcoming the students of the Lyceo de Moravia as they seek to fulfill the requirements of their community outreach program.
Lastly, if you would like to donate money (via the GIVE NOW button below), time or gently used clothing, please reach out to us at info@esperanzaurbana.org or via whatsappp at 506-8342-2929.
