Nice to see you! We have great updates to share with you:
News from the Rehab Center
We mentioned in our last newsletter that one of our sponsors, Cummings, was in the process of helping us purchase, install, and convert an old container at the center. That container has arrived and is now being turned into four individual rooms for the men that have finished their rehabilitation process, supporting a transition phase. As you can see in the photo below, the transformation is well underway. Many teams of volunteers have been involved in the process and we are extremely grateful for their involvement. After the rooms are ready, the volunteers will also plant shrubs and a garden all generously offered by Cummings. The men staying in the rooms will be responsible for their care giving them an additional sense of purpose and community.
We had also mentioned in a past newsletter the pressing renovations that are required at the center. Renovations are required to bring up to code and make it safe and practical for the people living and working there. We are constantly reaching out to sponsors and try to get people involved in helping us. Recently, a local paint company, Lanco, has donated sufficient paint to paint both the center and the container. This amazing gift is very timely, and we thank them for their generosity.
Several new men have joined the rehabilitation program recently bringing the total currently to over 30 men. That is a lot of people being helped and taking the steps toward a better life. As you can see in the photo below of one of the residents showing his beautiful art, one can be very inspired at the center!
Outreach Update
Our volunteer team is always busy preparing food and clothing, and hard at work distributing to the homeless community in San José every Wednesdays (see photo below). We can always use additional hands so if you would like to join us, let us know via the contact information below.
In Other News...
We are getting a lot of high school students involved in collecting clothes and preparing food. New schools are always joining the program. We love to see the youth of Costa Rica getting involved in their community!
Speaking of volunteers, we are speaking with a few health organizations these days trying to strike a partnership where they could lend us social workers, psychologists, and other types of health professionals to supplement the rehabilitation program. If you are such a health professional and would like to volunteer your time to help your community, please reach out to us.
Lastly, if you would like to donate money (via the GIVE NOW button below), time or gently used clothing, please reach out to us at info@esperanzaurbana.org or via whatsappp at 506-8342-2929.
Thank you for your continued support and have a wonderful day.
Sincerely,
David
