A True Success Story

Meet Juan Carlos above. David and the volunteer team met Juan Carlos on the streets of San José sometime in July.  Over the course of a few discussions, we learned a bit more of his story and the hard times he has experienced.  From grieving for a son and his wife a few years ago to losing his job, Juan Carlos has been homeless for the last two years, unable to find a job and a home. When David found out that Juan Carlos had a valid bus driver license, he reached out to his contact Saide who is a director of a bus company called Tracopa here in San José. After introducing them and a successful driving test, Saide hired Juan Carlos! The photo features Juan Carlos on his very first day on August 4 and we are pleased to report that he has been happily driving around the city since then! Your support and donations have made this happy outcome possible for Juan Carlos and we are very grateful.  

News from the Rehab Center 

We also have great news from the rehab center to share. Several new men have joined the rehabilitation program recently. Our volunteer team has met and talked with these men over the course of the last few weeks and months and were able to gain their trust and convinced them to join the program.  Our volunteer Darren Yates was there last Wednesday to witness one of these men, Rafael, leaving for the center.  It was very emotional moment for all present, filled by excitement, pride, and hope. We are very proud of the important step all these men have taken towards a path to a better life. 

Also, David recently visited the rehabilitation center in Puriscal with representatives from a potential international sponsor. Everyone was impressed with what the center has been able to build over the last few years. It was an occasion to identify opportunities for involvement and support and meet with the people doing such important work over there.  We will keep you informed as to future development on that front and how you can be involved.

Outreach Update

Our volunteer team has been busy preparing food and clothing, and distributing to the homeless community in San José every Wednesdays.  The needs are immense especially following the pandemic. We have seen several people without shoes or coats and the nights do get cold in San José. We have also seen homeless families with young children.
