Dear friends,
We hope that you and your loved ones are doing well and staying safe. With social distancing in mind, we continue to support the homeless community in San José where possible.
During the last 3 months, you have helped us raise an additional $1,500 to help carry out necessary maintenance required by the Ministry of Health to the rehabilitation center we work with, 'Generaciones Victoria'. We are very grateful for the generous donations from our supporters all over the world. Look for more details regarding that fundraising campaign in our next report.
Due to the dynamic nature of rehabilitation, the number of men Esperanza Urbana supports at the center fluctuates frequently with people finishing, starting, commencing employment etc. However, we are currently supporting 10 men, with 2 new men joining the center since our last report.
Despite the pandemic, many activities continue at the center. The participants have attended therapy sessions and educational workshops such as woodworking, sexual education, gardening and animal therapy. They also did some community work when it was possible to follow social distancing guidelines. They also made improvements to the building and grounds of the rehabilitation center.
A success story: We are happy to report that one of the participants, Lucas, successfully finished his rehabilitation and has found a job as a barber. Everyone at Generaciones Victoria and Esperanza Urbana is very proud of Lucas. His determination throughout the program has been exemplary and we wish him the best of luck as he embarks on this new chapter of his life. To help ensure his success, he will continue to receive support from the center for some time.
Thank you for your continued support of Esperanza Urbana’s Rehabilitation Project! Because of you, Lucas, and many others are able to work towards recovery and re-entering society with the skills necessary to be successful.
Let’s continue to plant a seed of hope, together.
