We are returning to Uganda to expand our water system at the Kafunjo community project alongside Bruno as he continues to serve his students and the community of Kafunjo at large. In 2022 we installed a solar water filtration system, and now we want to provide clean water access for all of the school's students and the entire Kafunjo campus. Our plan is to build several collection tanks, plumb showers and sinks, and give access to local farmers. This is a huge undertaking and we need your help!
Kafunjo has a very large property and is serving 500+ students with education, food, water access, and housing. Their water needs are growing every day with more students and community members needing access. Our current system brings water up from the river to the soccer field and farm land but we want to bring the water all the way up to the school so that access is easy for the students. They also do not having sinks or showers that run at the school currently due to access.
Our plan is to pump the clean water up to the school and provide plumbing access to sinks and a shower as well as a drinking spigot. This will allow students to spend less time walking to the soccer field to get water and more time in their studies. We also believe that with easier access to water, cooking techniques will improve and hand washing will become more of a healthy habit. These will impact the overall health and wellness of the students.
The potential long-term impact of these projects could be better health and wellness outcomes. Frequent hand washing reduces risk for illnesses and infections, leading to better performance at school and reduced costs for Bruno and the Kafunjo team caring for these students. We also believe that better access at the school will save teachers, students and Bruno time in collecting water and will give them the ability to grow and serve the Kafunjo community to their fullest potential.
