Rural Women Development Trust implements the Education & Nutritional Support program for vulnerable children. This project seeks support to provide Nutritional Assistance and improve the learning skill through innovative methods for 489 disadvantaged dalit Arunthathiyar children in 10 villages of Taramangalam Block, Salem District of Tamilnadu with a view to motivating and encouraging the dalit Arunthathiyar children to go to schools without absence so as to reduce dropout rates and eliminate the practice of existing child bonded laborer and child laborer problems. Particularly the girl children stay in school to prevent from abuses and exploitations which most increase recently in our location as well as major rural parts of India.
In each village center, a local educated volunteer was appointed as motivators to give special coaching to the children. The classes are taken in the evening 5.00 to 7.00 pm. In the beginning of the class, the children are supported to complete the home works given by the school teachers. After that English lesions are taught by phonic method. Also the children are learning English using audio materials and work books. In alternate days, the mathematics is taught in easy learning methods. To monitor the regular activities, a education coordinator was appointed. For effective implementation, the quarter wise trainings are given to motivators. In each center, the skill charts are maintained to know the levels reached by the children. After completion of all levels, the declaration events were conducted in front of community leader, parents and special invited educated persons.
The children also are provided weekly once nutritional assistance like milk, fruits and groundnuts. This support keeps the children brisk and smart to learn the subjects interestingly. The benefit of the project is reached 489 children in 10 villages.
Results & Outcomes
(1) The children skills in English learning and mathematics are improved
(2) Dropped outs and child laborer were eliminated in the target villages.
(3) The children health is improved and they learnt clean habits.
(4) The children are prevented from abuse and trafficking,
(5) The parents were got awareness on education and child future.
(6) The children performed well in school level activities.
The school teachers adopt the methods where we teach in our centers.
