==============================
As in the rest of the world, Guatemala is beginning to see the effects of the coronavirus pandemic. Our activities are small, but they are centered in bringing groups of people together (youth in Punto Crea and Punto Crea Community Committees) and in mobilizing facilitators from one location to another. Both are activities that reduce social distancing and increase the risk of transmitting the virus between people with no symptoms.
Added to this, we work in low-income communities. This means we come in contact with people that are more vulnerable to the disease due to their nutritional state.
For these reasons and to contribute to national efforts to limit the dissemination of the disease and its impact on health services we will avoid as far as possible all face-to-face activities over the next 4 weeks. Staff will be engaged in planning, design and development of resources. This means we will reduce transportation and per diem expenses, but we are committed to sustaining our field staff's income. This is only possible thanks to your generosity, so thank you for your ongoing support.
Please don't hesitate in contacting us if you have any questions or commentary. And please do follow the advice of your sanitary authorities: social distancing measures, frequent and intensive hand washing, sneezing and coughing into a handkerchief or your arm (not into your hands), and seeking health care if you present symptoms.
