Project Report | Dec 8, 2022
Protecting Survivors of Human Trafficking

By Marcus Fey & Boom Mosby | CFO of FCF & Director of The HUG Project

One long-term desired social outcome of The Family Connection Foundation's work in Thailand is that "trafficked and abused people will escape from exploitation and experience holistic healing." This doesn't mean simply rescuing a victim and throwing a criminal in jail. It means rescuing a victim, protecting the victim's dignity, providing victim counseling, pursuing justice through the Thai legal system, and helping each victim get to a place where they can feel safe living in and contributing to society again. Our foundation has multiple initiatives working to accomplish this. Below is a recent story from one of our programs called HUG Project, demonstrating how we are accomplishing this desired social outcome.

Nong Penny (name changed) was a previous victim of child human trafficking. The HUG Project worked hard on her case and were grateful to see her on the path to restoration. However, it did not end there. The HUG team received contact from Nong Penny again, saying she was in trouble. This time the offender was her ex-boyfriend. Because they were previously in a relationship, he had several nude images of her. The offender threatened to release nude images of her if she didn’t give him 50,000 baht or have sex with him. When she refused, he forwarded an image of her to another person. The HUG Project team, along with Thailand Internet Crimes Against Children (TICAC), searched the offender's house and found evidence on his cell phone. He was later arrested and charged with distributing child sexual abuse material.

Your support of The Family Connection Foundation makes it possible for teams like The HUG Project to support children like Nong Penny. Thank you for partnering with our foundation!
