Greater Hands Foundation intends to support 500 most vulnerable pregnant women and girls in Ikom Local government area (LGA) of Cross River State, Nigeria with basic health care social support services that encourages facility services uptake and improved mechanism to cope with covid-19 and post pandemic health challenges, also providing 300 young women and girls of reproductive age with sanitary pads, addressing gender gaps and engender improved health and well-being of the marginalised women.
Nigeria ranks 118 out of 134 countries on the Gender Equality Index; this is traceable to the gender inequality exhibited in almost all areas of human development. Also, the poor involvement or almost exclusion of women and girls' perspectives in policy making decisions, resource allocations and implementations in economic and other social activities pose challenges towards the realization and advancement of gender equality.
GHF will conduct community sensitization to women and girls of reproductive age on importance of facility services uptake including Antenatal care, Labour and deliveries and Family Planning (FP), conduct referral services for Antenatal care service, labour and delivery, FP and Postpartum Family Planning service uptake. Provide personal hygiene support services including provision of sanitary pad for young women and girls. Provide hand washing equipments and materials to vulnerable households.
This project will educate over 1500 women on the importance of facility deliveries and services uptake, address gender inequalities and support emergency transportation and personal hygiene for positive health outcomes and well-being. The women and girls will in turn become women Ambassadors in support of facility services uptake for early Antenatal care, labour and deliveries and Family Planning as well as promotion of personal hygiene among women and girls and community members in general.
