When L.M. first arrived at Crecemos DIJO, she was just a frail and malnourished baby. Her tiny arms and legs barely had any strength, and her smile was rarely seen, hidden behind the shadows of poverty and food insecurity that her family faced daily. Her mother, desperate to find a solution, brought L.M. to Crecemos DIJO seeking help.
L.M.’s family, like many in Oaxaca, struggled to survive. With her father working as a street vendor and her mother doing occasional domestic work, food in their home was scarce and often lacking in nutrition. The situation became even more critical when the pandemic hit, leaving the family without work and without means to properly feed their daughter.
At Crecemos DIJO, we understand that proper nutrition is essential not only for a child's physical development but also for their overall well-being and ability to learn and thrive. So, when L.M. arrived at our doors, our team focused not only on feeding her but also on educating her parents about the importance of a balanced diet.
L.M. began receiving nutritious and balanced meals regularly. But it wasn’t just that which changed their lives. Our nutritionists worked closely with L.M.’s parents, teaching them how to prepare healthy meals with the limited resources they had.
Today, L.M. is a healthy and energetic child, with a smile that lights up any room. Her parents have also improved their health and have learned to better care for their family through proper nutrition. They are no longer just surviving; they are now building a safer and healthier future for L.M. and her siblings.
L.M.’s story is a testament to the power of community support, sharing knowledge, and how, even in times of crisis, it’s possible to change lives for the better. Through our nutrition and education programs, Crecemos DIJO remains committed to fighting malnutrition and strengthening families in Oaxaca, ensuring that no child is left behind.
