Gaza Update : Our Reach In Numbers

By Ehab Elsawaf | Senior Major Gifts Officer, ActionAid USA

Thank you for your support of this project, I'm writing to share some updates on our work in Gaza.

As of December 2024, a total of 464,338 individuals have been directly reached with humanitarian relief efforts in Gaza, a number that is expected to increase significantly as our ongoing data collection with partners continues. Of this, 222,363 people benefitted from food distribution across Gaza (and the West Bank), ensuring that vital nutrition reaches those in need. In addition, 15,928 individuals have received essential Non-Food Items (NFIs), including hygiene kits for 6,210 people and clothing items for 3,968 others. Furthermore, 47,458 people have been provided with Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) services, which included the establishment of 8 latrines in camps in Al Mawasy (Khan Younis) by an ActionAid partner.

Protection services have played a crucial role in our response, as is typical for ActionAid's humantarian signature with 8,559 women and children receiving support. In particular, 650 children participated in wellbeing activities in Deir Al-Balah and Al Nusairat. A significant psychosocial support initiative reached 2,000 women survivors and 2,000 children in Gaza City and the Middle Area and approximately 5,500 children gained access to educational opportunities through Hope festivals led by a youth group in Gaza, particularly in Rafah.

Multi-purpose cash assistance has been vital in supporting families, with 1,538 families, totaling over 7,000 individuals, receiving distribtuions.  In terms of healthcare, 70,000 people were  provided with medical services at Al Nuseirat Hospital  until May 2024, which helped address urgent health needs. Furthermore, 2,000 individuals have received shelter support in the El Mawasi and Rafah areas, assisting those displaced.

Looking ahead, our humanitarian response in Gaza will continue to evolve. The impact of the ongoing efforts will be updated in our next report, as data collection and collaboration with partners provide a clearer picture of the needs and support required in the coming months. These combined efforts remain crucial to addressing the challenges faced by the affected populations in Gaza and surrounding areas.

Thank you for your partnership during this critical time.
