Home Is Where The Love Is

"The ten-square-sized suite, crowded with a family of four, the small space is full of furniture, and you are afraid that you would accidentally bump into their belongings when you walked into it." The community worker recalled when she first visited Dajun.

Dajun is a sixth-grade elementary school boy whose personality is serious and sensible. He knows that his parents work hard and he usually studies and writes homework by himself after school; also helps take care of his younger brother who is two years younger than him. Besides, he is an athlete who loves archery and has represented the school in the National Archery Championships with excellent results.

Last year, his father was injured in an accident and was unable to work, so the family's financial burden fell entirely on my mother. The meager income of the temporary cleaners in the restaurant could barely cover the food and necessities of a family of four; however, they could not pay the rent and they were forced to move out of their original accommodation. Fortunately, the community worker of the Mustard Seed Mission knew this situation and assisted Dajun to apply for emergency financial aid and helped them find a temporary residence. It made the whole family breathe a sigh of relief, and the original sadness turned into a smile.

A few days ago, the community worker also sent kits to provide necessities to reduce the daily living expenses of Dajun's family. Dajun's mother thanked the community worker and said, "After solving the problem of housing, my husband can finally rest and recuperate, and Dajun and his brother can write their homework."

Due to the spacious new environment, Dajun would do muscular endurance training at home during the weekend to keep his fitness in the best condition and move towards his dream of becoming a national archery player.

Spring Festival Reunion Meal~ Ordinary Happiness

For many people, eating a big meal is nothing more than a normal thing. But the children of families served by the Mustard Seed Mission, who are already satisfied with the three meals daily, dare not think about this kind of unattainable happiness.

The 10 year-old sponsored child Xiaoqing was raised by her aunt since she was small. Her mother, after Xiaoqing’s birth, was unable to raise her baby and entrusted her sister to take care of the baby, leaving home without a message ever since. In Xiaoqing’s growth, her aunt is her mother and the only folk.

Usually, the aunt relies on the meager income of working in the factory to support the family, and the two live frugally. The community partners of the Mustard Seed Mission saw the needs of the family and applied to the children sponsorship program for Xiaoqing and also regularly send supplies to Xiaoqing's home, caring about the current situation and needs.

This day was a New Year’s reunion meal party held by the Mustard Seed Mission and the community partners. The weather was as comfortable and pleasant as the meaning of Xiaoqing’s name. Community partners and workers took the family and children together to the restaurant where the party was held. The children were squeaking and jumping forward on the road, and looking at their backs, one could feel the excitement of the children.

The moment they walked into the steakhouse, the children couldn't help exclaiming: "Wow!"
"It's so beautiful here"
"I've never been to a restaurant like this".
Xiaoqing even asked her aunt with bright eyes: "Are we really going to eat here!"

They depend on each other, rely on the support of kind-hearted people, barely enough for three meals. They never thought that they could have a rich meal in a high-end steakhouse. Looking at each meal, they were both surprised and happy. Also full of thanks.

Dear Children Sponsor

Sponsored child Xiaoyun is 7 years old this year. Her mother remarried, and her father works in another place, so she and her two siblings live with her grandmother. In such old age as her grandmom, it is really not easy to raise three little grandchildren. Xiaoyun is a caring, well-behaved, and sensible child. She always helps her grandmother with house chores and plays with her younger brothers and sisters.

Because her grandmother is illiterate, she couldn't help her three children with schoolwork. She doesn't even know how to write a letter to thank the children's sponsors who help Xiaoyun. As a social worker, every time Xiaoyun wants to write a letter to her sponsor, I will bring stationery and colored pens to help her, so that Xiaoyun and her younger siblings can convey their gratitude to the sponsors.

One time, Xiaoyun asked me, "Do you know where our parents are? Why haven't they come back to see us for a long time?"

While hearing this, I couldn't help but make my nose sour, and replied, "I don't know where they are..." I continued, "But I know that the sponsors, all the uncles and aunties, love you very much. They care about you in faraway; although you don't know them, they never forget you. They work hard and send sponsored gift money to your grandma to take care of you every month, hoping that you can eat well, go to school, grow up safely, and be happy..." After that, I saw the children's bright eyes sparkling, and the three small faces that were originally sad broke into a smile.

This time, I also wrote a letter to say "thank you" to all the children sponsors!

Thank you, you are a supporter of these children's life journey, and you have made complete the shortcomings of the children's original families. Your giving is not only providing financial help, but also making families and children in distress feel warm. Sow a love seed in children's hearts, so that they can be strong and courageous, then they are able to surpass the hardships of the environment, and grow with a positive heart.
