Dear friends,
The end of the year is often a time to reflect on where we've been, what we've achieved, and to take stock of how we are doing. For us at Libros para Todos, it was been such a poignant and memorable year.
Thanks to your support of our project, we have achieved more this year than ever before.
For starters, we had TWO Big Reads this year, one with author Monique Zepeda and another with author Pedro Antonio Garcia. 600 students participated in each of those Big Reads meaning that 1,200 children each received a book they read and were able to meet with the author.
Secondly, our volunteers have been working diligently during the entire school year at 3 different rural elementary schools. They have been tutoring children who have fallen behind and have been reading to entire grades to help spread the love of reading.
Thirdly, we brought a team of 12 musicians and tech support from Mexico City to town to present an opera for children based on a book the children have read. This free event was attended by over a thousand people!
Fourthly, we converted a space in a rural community center into a children's library in the community Alonso Yañez. We thank Mila Villasana for designing the mural, John Chapman and David Ziff for making the bookcases and all the volunteers who put hours into making the space very special.
Lastly, we hosted three summer camps in August which directly benefitted 82 children. It was totally free and all courses were taught by professional artists. The children pleaded with us to keep the camp going all year :-)
We are so grateful for your trust and support and wish you a holiday season full of warmth and love. Muchisimas gracias,
Daniela
