By Sara Bannon | Director of Development at Poured Out
Hey there!
I wanted to give you an update on what's happening in Haiti and at Poured Out.
The UN forces from Kenya have arrived in Haiti this summer. So far, this has not resulted in any further peace or stability but we also understand that this type of violence and instability takes alot of time to change. We are being patient and hopeful that shipping lines, airports, and services will resume normal service soon in Haiti for the sake of all those who live and work there.
At this time, we are focusing our efforts on Water Houses and finishing installing the filters we have in country. This has been going well, despite the obstacles, and we are working on finishing a Water House at a school this week! This Water House will supply clean water to hundreds of students, teachers, and community members in Haiti. THANK YOU for being apart of this by sponsoring our Water Technicians. Without them, our work would be completly impossible. They truly have problem solved in incredible ways over the last year and we are so grateful to have them.
Another big piece of news that we wanted to let you know about first is that Venel has been accepted to the Biden Program and just arrived in the US for a visa stay. This opportunity is very exciting for him in order to be in a safe place, build on his english skills, work, and support his family. This does mean that he has stopped his employment with us and will be pursuing other things here in the US. While we are sad to lose his amazing experience, knowledge, and expertise--we are so happy for him and this opportunity he has worked hard for.
With that update, we wanted to be transparent that future donations towards sponsoring our Water Technicians will be designed for Junnot and Chelo and their continuing work in Haiti. If you have any questions about this change, don't hesitate to reach out!
Thank you so much again for your support of our staff!
