In older age, a person gets more drawn to children and family and craves their attention. The residents of nursing homes are usually miserable not only because they are homeless but also because they miss their families more than anything.
So this time, our visitors were the planet's most beautiful blessing, i.e. children. A group of children came to meet our ladies with their favourite snacks and lit up their world with their non-stop chatter and sweet giggles.
In Pakistan, the other name for winter is the WEDDING SEASON. Karachi's metropolis experiences a short winter span, and every single person in the city is invited to at least one wedding per winter season. In Pakistani society, weddings are usually big gatherings equally enjoyed by children and older people. The menu of the feast is incomplete without the famous Biryani, Chaey and Fish. Usually, people visit and bring gifts or spend some time with the nursing home residents, but they also wish to feel and enjoy the festivities of everyday life. So this time, our nursing home administrator, who also happens to have a great social circle, took our ladies to a wedding (they were invited, of course), and it was really thoughtful of her. They enjoyed every bit of the festive social gathering, and their sparkling eyes and blushed cheeks were proof enough of their happiness.
But before heading to the wedding, Ms Sabahat (Administrator Al-Mustafa Nursing Home women's chapter) made sure that everyone in the nursing home gets their regular supply of winter accessories, i-e winter appropriate shawls and other articles of clothing, toiletries, oils, moisturizers and their supply of dry fruits, biscuits etc.
Nursing homes can never be an alternative to a person's own home. Al-Mustafa's Nursing Homes are not just about providing shelter and food. We try to give them a carefree and socially active life, which also helps us keep them happy and healthy. Their improved mental health gives them more strength to fight age-related or other diseases.
