As the 2020 pandemic took hold over the world, the schools were shut down and orphan children confined to the campus under strict lockdown. The mounting stress and fear of the unknown was too much to bear for adults let alone children. The staff jumped into action and decided to tackle this head-on with limited resources at start. Basic yoga exercises were initiated, the children on campus started by watching tutorial videos on YouTube. By adding this to the morning routine the caretakers noticed a profound effect in the children as they were significantly less stressed and more focused in their various activities during the day.
For centuries, people have been doing practices in spiritual and mental development such as yoga and practicing mindfulness to reach their full potential. These simple acts can reap out the benefits of mental clarity, self-awareness, focus, and fulfilment in one’s life. The Yoga & Mindfulness program was adopted under the Community Well-Being initiatives by Roshni Home Trust. Experts in the field were consulted and brought in for formal trainings and sessions. A special committee was formed, led by Ms. Tazeem Mukhtar Chairperson for the Well-Being Committee. The Committee also included the orphan children who are now receiving training certifications to become certified Yogis, through partnership with The Wonderful Yoga club based in Gujranwala.
Every morning 6 days a week, 80 children aged 5 to 18 along with the caretaker staff take part in these sessions as the start to their day. These sessions revolve around the following activities:
The positive impact of introducing these sessions has been immense and the caretakers have noted the following points after regular yoga sessions commenced:
The committee has its own vision and mission and is working on it. Following are some notable achievements;
We at Roshni Homes Trust strive to make the lives of our children better and meaningful. Something as simple as yoga and mindfulness exercises can make a huge difference in a day of a child, leading the child to learn and live better.
The same way your continued support to our cause means a lot and for that we Thank you!
