To begin this report, we would like to say a big THANK YOU for all the donors who have donated to our project. Your donations have improved the project status tremendously and a lot has been achieved since the last period. Kindly keep donating to this project on a monthly basis to ensure that the results we have so far achieve will be sustained.
In our project, we are cultivating micro-algae spirulina as food supplement to fight malnutrition in Ethiopia. The weather has been favorable throughout the reporting period and as a result, we have been harvesting twice a week and maintained a yield of 5kg of a wet paste of spirulina. However, as we reported in the last period, we still use the traditional methods of drying and it takes days to completely dry before being ground to powder and packed for distribution.
In this third quarter, your donations were used to buy supplies of 3 months, specifically, litmus papers at 30 USD, 2 grinders at 50USD, hand gloves at 100USD and paid for 3 months electricity bills at 165 USD as well as 3 months water bills at 320 USD. The building which was started in the first quarter has been completed and is operational. The donations we have received so far weren’t enough to complete it and we had to use other finances to accomplish the work and we owe it all to you. The building houses storage rooms for fertilizers, finished Spirulina products and laboratory. Due to these changes which has improved the quality of Spirulina produced and sanitation and hygiene in our facility, the Ethiopian Federal Food, Medicine & Healthcare Administration and Control Authority has granted us a Certificate of Competency for our facility. As of the end of this quarter, we have exhausted your donations received and pray that you will join us in raising for more funds to continue with the project.
In the next quarter, we will continue doing the production and distribution to the needy children as we continue raising funds towards our goal of buying a spirulina drying machine costing USD10,000. We hope to attain our goal in the near future.
