During this second quarter, we are still very grateful for all the donors who have donated to our project without which our project would not have progressed to its current state.
In our project, we are cultivating micro-algae spirulina as a food supplement to fight malnutrition in Ethiopia. Thanks to the favorable weather, for the past two months we have been harvesting twice a week and get a yield of 5kg of a wet paste of spirulina. However, we still use the traditional methods of drying and it takes days to completely dry before being ground to powder and packed for distribution.
With your generous donations, our work has been a bit easier and the quality of spirulina produced improved. In the second quarter, we used your donations to buy supplies of 3 months, specifically, litmus papers at 30 USD, 2 grinders at 50USD, hand gloves at 100USD and paid for 3 months electricity bills at 165 USD as well as 3 months water bills at 400 USD. The foundation of 3 rooms building which was laid in the last quarter has been erected with concrete and roofed from which your donations contributed USD1,500. The 3 rooms will house laboratory for quality control of spirulina and products, storage of packed products and fertilizers and the drying room. And in total, we used USD2,245 from your donations this second quarter.
In the next quarter, we will continue doing the production as we continue raising funds towards our goal of buying a spirulina drying machine costing USD10,000. We hope to attain our goal in the near future.
