Spirulina for malnourished Children in Ethiopia

We would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge all the donors who have contributed to our project, thank you very much and we will strive to utilize your donations in the project to impact the lives of those in need positively.

In our project, we are cultivating micro-algae spirulina as food supplement to fight malnutrition in Ethiopia. Being the rainy season in Ethiopia now, we harvest once in a week and get a yield of 2kg wet paste of Spirulina in average. Your donations have helped to make our work easier and we have bought 17 aquarium heaters at 30USD each which are inserted in the pools to give warmth to the growing Spirulina during this rainy season which is also very cold. Spirulina needs warmth to sustain their lives and growth without which they die. So your donations have really been helpful in the continuity of this project. We have also bought our own micro-scope at 200 USD since we have been renting one from Addis Ababa University at a cost. With your donations we have also bought supplies of 3 months, specifically, litmus papers at 30 USD, 2 grinders at 50USD, hand gloves at 100USD and paid for 3 months electricity bills at 165 USD as well as 3 months water bills at 400 USD. In summary, for the past 3 months we have used a total of 1,455USD from your donations.  

In the next 3 months, we plan to continue raising funds towards our target of 10,000USD to purchase a high speed centrifugal spirulina drying machine. As capital equipment, we have just laid a foundation of 3 rooms (permanent building with concrete materials) to house the laboratory, drying area and storage room. We highly hope that we will be able to complete the building and in this regard, we plan to participate in the upcoming matching campaigns to raise funds for the completion of this building.
