We are cultivating micro-algae spirulina as food supplement to fight malnutrition in Ethiopia. Project is ongoing, harvesting is done every 3 days. The harvested product is a wet paste which need to be dried to preserve its nutritional contents before grinding into powder and distributing to malnourished methods of drying we currently use possess a lot of challenges and risks contamination of the product. We therefore need a high-speed centrifugal spirulina drying machine.
In Ethiopia, despite the ongoing and rapid growth of the national economy, the problems of malnutrition, especially among women and children groups in areas of food insecurity continue to pose a monumental challenge to national and regional development efforts. Malnutrition affects 1 in every 3 people in the country and is responsible for almost half of all under five mortality rates.
Through this project, 10,000 malnourished people in Addis Ababa will receive spirulina in powder form as food supplement to boost their immunity and reverse the effects of malnutrition. High speed centrifugal spirulina drying machine will optimize the production of dried spirulina powder to be distributed to malnourished people in Addis Ababa and within few days' changes will be felt by the users of the product and have improved health conditions.
1. Improved health outcomes of targeted groups 2. Reduced child and maternal mortality rates associated with under- nutrition 3.
