Gugulethu is a township in the Western Cape, South Africa and is 15 km from Cape Town. This township has a rich history dating back to the apartheid years. Like many townships in South Africa, Gugulethu is also riddled with crime, poverty and unemployment. HOPE Africa in partnership with Reenbog ECD identified 50 young boys who are in desperate need for supplies and mentorship. These boys were taken to Lion’s head mountain Cape Town for a hiking session on 16 June 2022. Mentorship activities arranged by Reenbog ECD staff were centred around the hiking trail to help the boys develop leadership skills.
On 17 June the mentorship activities continued in the form of a full day event where Mr. Brighton Khumalo, HOPE Africa staff member responsible for the Gender Based Violence and Femicide project gave a 2 hour talk on GBV. The boys also received toiletry bags containing face cloths, lotion, roll on, toothbrush, toothpaste, soap, masks and sanitizer. Your donations contributed to purchasing these toiletry items which the boys were in desperate need of.
HOPE Africa will continue to identify communities that are in desperate need of assistance and tailor assistance packages based on the needs. Thank you for your contributions and we hope to send you another report with more stories sponsored by you.
