Karachi is revving up for a very hot summer! We’ve been prepping for the heat, and we’re ready for Ramadan!
Here’s what we’ve been up to:
Lyari And Orangi Town Girls In A Local Music Video: Our top talent from the Lyari and Orangi Town centers collaborated with a local rap artist to promote women’s participation in sport to create a music video for their song ‘Lyari is United’. Check out the full video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WYNB5m9TWMI
The idea was to highlight unique and diverse activities that help bring communities together – like sport and music! The girls had a great time shooting this video – and we look forward to doing more of this work to help get more young girls onto the playing field.
Coaching Workshop: The community center coaches attended a capacity building workshop in the previous month that focused on ‘The Power of Positivity’. The idea was to highlight their influence as role models for the children, and serve as a beacon of strength and encouragement for the players. Many children internalize the negativity around their immediate environments; as coaches, our team has the unique power to encourage children in a very tangible way. The workshop covered both theoretical concepts as well as practical ways to implement them.
Orangi Town Community Tournament: Our Orangi Town Centre hosted their first Karachi United Inter-Academy tournament this April. The objective was to promote football in a safe and professional environment within the area, and harness the very best sporting talent in the community. They extended an invitation to all KU Centers and also other academies that have sprung up in Orangi Town for boys in 3 different age categories (Under 10 – 12, Under 14 and Under 16). Inviting external teams to their home ground was a way to promote inter-community interaction and tolerance. The tournament was played at the Ibrahim Ali Bhai GSS, Orangi Town No. 5.
Thank you for being a part of a great quarterly run so far! We appreciate you generosity, and wish you a wonderful Ramadan ahead.
