Your support will catalyze our ability to increase funding, improve training and better equip SOTENI's AIDS Barefoot Doctors (ABDs) in Kenya. ABDs are community health workers that facilitate HIV Support Groups in SOTENI's three Villages of Hope. It will provide ABDs with expertise and tools needed as we strive to reach 5,000 people through social support, education, clean drinking water, and income-generating activities.
Inflation, unemployment, rising food prices, and extreme weather patterns have raised barriers to overcoming poverty in Kenya. As a result, the chronically poor in this region remain vulnerable to preventable, but life-threatening diseases like HIV. Many must make the impossible choice between their own treatment or educating their children and putting food on the table. This precarious existence can only be overcome through economic empowerment and independence.
SOTENI partners with semi-autonomous Villages of Hope in Kenya to implement programs in alignment with our three strategic pillars: 1) AIDS Barefoot Doctors facilitate HIV Support Groups, providing home-based care, health education, and clean water 2)Entrepreneurship: Developing small business ventures to ensure sustainability 3) Broadening our impact with need-based programming from health clinics to support for secondary education
Through SOTENI's innovative and effective AIDS Barefoot Doctors program, we have empowered tens of thousands of people affected by HIV/AIDS to break the chain of poverty and disease. Our long-term vision is to see our SOTENI Villages of Hope become healthy, empowered, and prosperous.
