We just bought a bus! Currently, we have 16 people with the most severe disabilities who also use wheelchairs, including 3 children with muscle atrophy. We also support their closest family members. In the case of people with disabilities, systematic, professional and comprehensive rehabilitation is extremely important. We can guarantee it in our Osada Janaszkowo rehabilitation center. It is located 20 km away from Konin, where refugees from Ukraine live. Therefore, safe and professional transport is extremely needed. There is no public transport on this route.
In 2022, we had received a public subsidy for the purchase of a bus, but if it were not for the help of donors from GlobalGiving, we would not be able to finalize this purchase. Thanks to your support we managed to buy the vehicle specially adapted to the needs of people in wheelchairs. The equipment includes an elevator, special attachments for wheelchairs and three-point seat belts for people with disabilities. The previous bus was over 10 years old and was spending more and more time at the mechanic's instead of on the route.
During the ceremony of receiving the bus, the families from Ukraine were represented by Wladek and Amelia - refugees from Ukraine.
An additional, very important role of the new bus will be transporting people from Ukraine to specialized hospitals, often several hundred kilometers away from Konin.
